When Dylan stumbled upon the story of how a handful of surgeons in Rwanda were attempting to address the largest health crisis in the world, the idea behind “The Making of a Surgeon” was born.
In an attempt to address the fact that two-thirds of the world’s population do not have access to safe surgery – resulting in a third of all preventable deaths every year, more than HIV, malaria, and tuberculosis combined – a small group of Rwandan surgeons has launched an ambitious initiative. Their plan is to train young surgeons from all over the Sub-Saharan region.
Dylan decided he wanted to follow these surgeons, to get a real sense of the people behind the surgical masks and to understand what drives them onward in the face of the enormous task ahead.
His hope is that this film will allow for the thoughts and actions of Drs Faustin, Vicky, Yves and Françoise to reach audiences far and wide.
